SALISBURY, N.C. -- Queens posted a hard-fought three-set win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Tuesday night at Goodman Gym. The Royals claimed the win by the scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-23 in improving to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fall to 1-3 and 0-3.

Kylie Morgan led Catawba with 17 kills and added nine digs and a pair of blocks. Libero Malia Carr recorded 19 digs with Jasmine Wooten posting 10 digs and four kills. Jessica Walker provided four blocks.

Jordan Proszenyak totaled a dozen kills with 18 digs for the Royals. Lindsay Elmore collected eight blocks and kills, while Logan Witt also produced eight kills. Setter Mallory Swarts handed out 31 assists with 18 digs, while Brooke Farley served three aces to go with 10 digs.

Catawba battled even with Queens for most of the first set. A kill by Ashley Johnson had the Lady Indians on top 14-13. Kylie Morgan’s kill tied the set at 17, but Queens used a five-point run to ease ahead. Elmore and Casey Tarvin had a pair of combo blocks and Proszenyak put down two kills. Two kills from Walker stopped the run, but Elmore ended the set with a kill.

Proszenyak delivered three kills and Farley two aces in a run that gave Queens a 10-4 edge in set two. The lead moved to 15-6 after a kill from Elmore. Down 21-11, Catawba tried to rally, getting a kill and an ace from Morgan to help trim the deficit to 21-15. Wooten had two late kills to make it 24-18 before the set ended on a kill by Abbey Criser.

Catawba battled to the end in the final set, coming back from 20-15 down to tie the set late. Morgan had three straight kills before an ace by Walker to make it 20-19. The Lady Indians finally pulled even at 23-all on a Royals error, but a Catawba error and a combo block by Elmore and Anna McLain ended the match.

Catawba is at home again this weekend, starting with Coker on Friday night at 7 p.m.
