Womens Soccer Takes Tough 1-0 Loss to Queens
Salisbury, N.C. -- It was the conference opener for Catawba womens soccer as they hosted Queens University for an early season SAC matchup.
For the first 82 minutes, the game remained 0-0 as both teams went back and forth taking solid shots but could not break through. However, Queens forward Nia Gaither put one in the net to break the tie and would turn out to be the game winner in the 83rd minute.
The game turned when Catawba had to play a player down after a red card given to Anna Sidders late in the contest. Gaither's goal came just a few minutes after Sidders had to sit out the rest of the match.
Queens out-shot the Indians 16-8 for the game. Catawba goalkeeper Shelby Thompson came through with seven saves while Erica Turner had four saves of her own. Turner improves to 5-1 on the season, while Thompson drops to 2-1.
Next up for the Indians is another conference matchup, this time against Mars Hill this Saturday night. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
