Brooks Posts 17 Kills in Loss to Anderson
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Anderson picked up a four-set win over host Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Goodman Gym. The Trojans improved to 12-2 overall and 9-1 in the SAC with a 25-18, 25-20, 23-25 and 25-11 victory. The Catawba Indians fall to 3-9 and 2-8.
Jade Brooks equaled a career-best with 17 kills in the loss for Catawba. She hit at 42%, committing just two hitting errors. Allie Grubb added 10 kills with Kylie Morgan posting seven kills and 17 digs. Morgan Hester had 16 digs, three blocks and 36 assists with libero Malia Carr producing 15 digs.
Noelle Knudsen was one of four Trojans to post double digits in kills, leading the way with 13 and adding five blocks. Maya Leamonth had 12 kills with Regan Duty and Hailee Wilhelm each posting 11. Duty had four blocks, while Wilhelm served three aces. Lindsay McCurley totaled 23 digs and Emily Conlin had 48 assists.
Anderson grabbed the lead midway through the opening set, but could not put Catawba away until late. The Trojans led 19-15, but a pair of kills by Brooks got the Lady Indians within 20-18. Anderson reeled off the final five points to take the set.
The Trojans went up big in set two, using a 12-2 run to go up 22-10. Catawba rallied late and got to 24-20 after a block and kill from Brooks before Learmonth killed off the final point.
Carr served Catawba into the lead early in set three, turning an 11-7 deficit into a 13-11 lead. Brooks had three kills in that run. Anderson came back and went up 18-15 before Catawba rallied again. After pulling even at 18-all, Anderson went back up 22-19. Then the Lady Indians ran off four points, getting a block and kill by Ashley Johnson and another kill from Morgan. Catawba finished off the set on a kill by Brooks and an ace by Morgan.
Anderson responded in set four. The Trojans slowly built an early 5-3 edge to 15-7 after a kill by Learmonth. Kaitlyn Grube had four kills down the stretch to help Anderson post the win.
Catawba will host Newberry on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
