Volleyball Drops Tough Five-Set Match to Tusculum


SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba fell to Tusculum in a five-set South Atlantic Conference volleyball match on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Pioneers pulled out a 22-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22 and 16-14 victory to improve to 9-9 overall and 7-6 in the SAC. The Catawba Indians fell to 5-11 and 4-9.

Catawba trailed 14-11 in the final set, but rallied to pull even. After a Tusculum hitting error, Catawba tied the set on consecutive kills by Jasmine Wooten. The Pioneers were able to take the match on kills from Gracee Peters and Gabby Gray.

Claire Kellum led three Catawba players who reached double digits in kills with 18. Jade Brooks had 15 kills, 14 digs, two blocks and two aces, while Wooten tallied a dozen kills and 11 digs. Ashley Johnson recorded five blocks with libero Malia Carr posting 24 digs. Setter Morgan Hester had 45 assists with 14 digs with Sydney Snyder collecting 19 digs.

Gray totaled 23 kills with 13 digs and three blocks to pace Tusculum. Peters added 15 kills and 13 digs. Catherine Clingan served seven aces to go with 18 digs and 28 assists. Carly Sosnowski picked up 25 digs.

Catawba is on the road next week beginning with a match on Tuesday at Queens at 7 p.m.
