Smith and Bibey Lead Men's Golf on Day One at Queens Invitational


KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Catawba came back from a rough first round at the Queens Invitational Men’s Golf Tournament on Monday, but stand 17th. The third and final round of the 54-hole tournament will finish up tomorrow at the 7,024-yard, par-71 Club at Irish Creek.

Catawba had a 309 in the opening round then rallied with a 293 in the second round to post a 602 total. USC Aiken had two under-par rounds and lead the way with a 16-under-par total of 552. Lincoln Memorial is seven shots back.

Tanner Bibey and Riley Smith are the highest placed Catawba Indians in 74th on 151. Bibey had the best round with a 72 to finish on Monday. AJ Boyd and Hunter Donahue both had 73 in the second round.

A pair of USC Aiken golfers, Leo Johanson and Leonardo Bono, share the individual lead at eight-under-par (134). Vincent Norman, of Georgia Southwestern, is a shot back.

The final round will be held on Tuesday.
