Volleyball Downed By Coker in Three Sets
HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Coker swept past visiting Catawba in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at the DeLoach Center. The Cobras improved to 6-13 overall and 3-12 in the SAC with a 25-13, 25-18 and 25-16 win. The Catawba Indians fell to 5-13 and 4-11.
Claire Kellum had seven kills and two blocks to pace Catawba. Kylie Morgan and Ashley Johnson each had four blocks, while Morgan added a pair of aces and seven digs. Malia Carr collected 11 digs. The Lady Indians hit at just 3% in the loss, while Coker hit at 34%.
Chelsey Blume and Emily Everton each recorded 10 kills for Coker. Blume posted seven blocks. Taylor du Bray had six blocks and Camryn Tate had 14 digs.
The Cobras took the edge midway through the first set. Coker moved from a 9-9 tie to a 17-10 lead and kept Catawba at bay. It was a 14-4 run in set two that put the Cobras up 20-10 before Catawba made a late run. Coker ran out to a 7-2 lead in the final set and went on to sweep the match.
Catawba travels to Wingate at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
