Locklear garners SAC Women's Basketball Player of Week honor

ROCK HILL, SC -- Danyel Locklear of Catawba College has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday. This marks the second time this season Locklear has earned this honor. Locklear, a 6-0 senior forward from Pembroke, NC, averaged 20.6 points and 16 rebounds per game to lead the Lady Indians to South Atlantic Conference wins against Wingate University (81-70) and at Newberry College (71-50). Locklear posted a double-double in the win over SAC leading Wingate and added a dozen points over Newberry. She scored the opening 15 points against Wingate and had 22 of her 29 points at halftime. The Ragsdale High School product converted a key three-point play in the second half to end a 16-0 Bulldog run and the tie the game. Her basket with 2:04 left gave Catawba the lead for good. She finished the contest with 16 rebounds, marking her 13th double-double this season. Locklear played 23 minutes against Newberry, tallying a dozen markers and six boards in the road win. On the week, Locklear shot 51.5 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the free throw line. She also average 11 rebounds per game and 2.5 steals per contest. The SAC Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's eight sports information directors. #####
