Hammond's Overtime Goal Secures Indians' 1-0 Win
Gaffney, SC -- In a non-conference road match, the Catawba women's soccer team (10-2-2, 5-1-2 SAC) defeated Limestone (8-7, 7-2 CC) 1-0 on freshman Callie Hammond's overtime goal to give the Indians their 10th win of the 2019 season. The goal was Hammond's second goal scored on the year in the Lady Indians' second straight overtime match after tying Carson-Newman in two overtimes last Saturday evening.
It was a scoreless first 90 minutes that saw Catawba control the majority of the match. The Indians out-shot the Saints 14-3, while getting 6 shots on goal for the entire game. Limestone would win the corner kick battle 8-7.
Hammond's overtime game-winner was assisted by Maddie Capel and Jovana Sanchez. Hammond put one in low towards the center of the goal as it got through the goalkeeper and crossed the goal line, and the Indians then celebrated the freshman's game winner and their 10th victory of the season.
Hammond and Sarah Bissett led Catawba in shots taken with 4 while Emma Hickson led Limestone with 2 shots taken. Sophomore Sierra Davis got her first win of the year in goal for Catawba.
The Indians will travel to Anderson for a SAC match-up on Saturday in their next to last regular season game. Start time is set for 5 pm.
