Volleyball Falls to Lenoir-Rhyne
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba fell to visiting Lenoir-Rhyne in three sets in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Gym. The Bears improved to 15-11 overall and 10-8 in the SAC with a 25-13, 25-20 and 25-15 victory. The Catawba Indians drop to 5-16 and 4-14.
Kylie Morgan had seven kills to pace Catawba. Claire Kellum added five kills, five digs, two blocks and 13 assists. Ashley Johnson provided four kills and three blocks. Libero Malia Carr posted 13 digs.
Taylor Prall tallied 14 kills for Lenoir-Rhyne. Colette Romp added seven kills. Jackie Denny provided five blocks and Ashley Hawkins recorded a dozen digs. Helen Hamilton served three aces and handed out 23 assists.
Lenoir-Rhyne raced to an 11-2 lead in the opening set. Prall had two kills, Denny two blocks and Alexis Ivey an ace in the quick spurt that allowed the Bears to control the set.
Catawba got off to a better start in set two and led 11-9 after a kill from Morgan. At that point, the Bears reeled off seven straight points with two kills from Prall and two aces from Hannah Houston to lead 16-11. Catawba was within 21-18 after a combo block by Johnson and Kellum, but LR pulled away at the end of the set.
The Bears went up 9-4 early in set three and pulled away throughout. The lead went to 18-9 after a kill from Romp.
Catawba travels to Chowan on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. match.
