Women's Basketball Wins on the Road 74-68
Fayetteville, NC -- It was a tight battle on Saturday afternoon between Catawba (3-0) and Fayetteville State (0-4) but the Indians would come out on top 74-68. Lyrik Thorne led Catawba with 22 points.
The Indians had a strong first half as they out-scored FSU 19-15 in the first quarter and 32-22 in the second quarter. That gave the Indians a 14 point lead heading into halftime. Catawba would shoot 52% from behind the arc in the first half along with going 12-14 from the free throw line.
Half number two was a different story for the Indians' offense as they shot just 29% from the floor. Katisha Hyman would keep FSU in the game by scoring 20 points in 27 minutes of play.
FSU outscored Catawba by 8 points in the second half but it wouldn't be enough as the Indians closed out the game to improve to 3-0.
Taisha DeShazo scored 17 for Catawba, while Talia Barnes put up 10 points and had 11 rebounds for a double-double.
The Indians will have their home opener next Saturday at 2 pm when they host Lees-McRae.
