Women's Soccer Earns Regional Bid


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The NCAA announced its field of 56 team for the 2019 Women’s Soccer Championships and Catawba earned an at-large berth in the Southeast Region. It marks the second straight year of post-season play for the Catawba Indians and sixth overall appearance in NCAA Tournament play. Catawba is the eighth seed for the regional and will face top-seed and host Flagler in a first round game on Friday in St. Augustine, Fla.

The Peach Belt Conference Champion Saints have a nearly unblemished mark on the year, entering the regional with a 19-0-1 record and are ranked third in NCAA II. Flagler tied North Georgia, who also made the regional field, 2-2 on Oct. 26. Catawba has an 11-3-3 mark on the year.

The other first round match in St. Augustine will see fifth-seeded UNC Pembroke (14-4-1) face #4-seed Lincoln Memorial (16-4). Second-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne (15-3) will host the other pod in the Southeast Region and will take on #7-seed Wingate (13-4-2). The other first round match pits third-seeded North Georgia (15-2-2) against sixth-seeded Mount Olive (14-0-3).

The two finalists in each subregion will advance to third- and quarterfinal-round competition to be played Thursday, Dec. 5 or Friday, Dec. 6 and Saturday, Dec. 7 or Sunday, Dec. 8. The semifinals and championship games will take place Dec. 12 and 14 at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.
