Indians Extend Win Streak to Six to Start the Season With Victory Over Tusculum

Greeneville, TN -- The Catawba women's basketball team (6-0, 2-0 SAC) put together another winning performance on Saturday afternoon at Tusculum (6-2, 1-1 SAC) to continue their undefeated start to the 2019-2020 season. This is the first 6-0 start for the Indians since 1998-1999 when they started 8-0.

Shemya Stanbeck led the way for Catawba off the bench scoring 18 points in 24 minutes of play. Stanbeck went 8-11 from the floor while also collecting 4 rebounds. Taisha DeShazo scored 16 on the afternoon as she continues her hot start to the year on the offensive end.

The first half was a tight one as Catawba led by 1 point after the first quarter, while Tusculum out-scored the Indians by 1 in the second quarter to tie the game heading into halftime.

The third quarter would be the key as the Indians won the period 27-20 and would hold on to that lead in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Mia Long was the high scorer for Tusculum as she scored 21 points while going 7-9 from the floor. Long also collected 4 rebounds on the game.

Meanwhile for Catawba, Madison Hallman scored 11 points and hit 3 three pointers.

The Indians look to keep their winning streak alive when they host UVA-Wise next Saturday at 7 pm.
