Catawba Wins First SAC Game of the Season 75-71 Over Tusculum
Greeneville, TN -- The Catawba men's basketball team improved to 5-2 on the season and 1-1 in the SAC as they defeated Tusculum (5-3, 1-1 SAC) 75-71 on the road. Marcell Haskett was the high scorer for the Indians putting up 20 points while going 8-13 from the floor.
Catawba led most of the way as they took a 31-23 lead into halftime. Haskett scored 8 of his 20 points in the first half while shooting 2-4 from behind the arc. Ben Zemonek scored all 8 of his points in the half going 4-4 from the floor.
Trenton Gibson was the leading scorer for Tusculum scoring 17 points and going 8-9 from the free throw line. Joshua Scott helped the Tusculum cause with 14 points.
Tusculum would out-score the Indians in the second half 48-44 but the Indians would hold on late to secure the win.
Catawba would shoot 58% from the floor as a team and 47% from the three point line. Tusculum out-rebounded Catawba 35-30 on the afternoon.
Devin Cooper would team up with Haskett to score 19 points on the game. The two combined for 39 points. Cooper also went 2-3 from three point land.
Next Saturday the Indians look to stay hot when they host UVA-Wise at 9 pm.
