Men's Basketball Takes Care of Cavaliers 109-87
Salisbury, NC -- The Catawba men's basketball team (6-2, 2-1 SAC) took care of business at home against SAC foe UVA-Wise (4-3, 1-1 SAC) 109-87. Daquan Lilly was the high scorer for the Indians with 20 points to go along with 6 rebounds.
The first half was a close one as Catawba led 47-44. It was the second half that saw the Indians dominate and pull away as they would out-score the Cavaliers 62-43. Devin Cooper would have a big performance on the night scoring 18 points and dishing out 11 assists.
Five Catawba players scored in double figures, with the other three being Malik Constantine (14 points), Marcell Haskett (18 points), and Ben Zemonek (11 points). Constantine also came through with 10 rebounds to complete a double-double.
The Indians out-scored UVA-Wise in the paint 48-44 while Catawba's bench out-scored the Cavaliers' bench 34-17. The game saw just 3 lead changes, which were all in the first half. It also saw six technical fouls, four of which went against the Indians.
After the women's team defeated UVA-Wise 101-86, tonight is the first time in school history that both the men and women's teams have scored 100 points on the same day.
Next up for Catawba is a road match against Mars Hill next Saturday at 4 pm.
