Undefeated Streak Continues as Women's Hoops Defeat Mars Hill 94-57
Mars Hill, NC -- The hot start to the 2019-2020 season continued on Saturday for the Catawba women's basketball team (8-0, 4-0 SAC) as they defeated Mars Hill (2-9, 0-4 SAC) 94-57. Emily Phillips was the top scorer for the Indians with 15 points.
After Catawba won the first quarter 19-13, the game began to get away from the Lions of Mars Hill as the Indians offense would prove too much to handle. Catawba outscored Mars Hill by 12 points in the second quarter and wouldn't have any trouble fending off the home squad.
Anna Gardner and Lyrik Thorne had 12 points each, while Thorne came up 1 rebound short of a double-double. The Indians bench came up big in this one as they scored 61 of the 94 points.
Catawba shot 43% from three point land as well as from the field. The turnover battle was a big win in the Indians' favor as the Lions turned the ball over 31 times.
Catawba currently sits at the top of the SAC standings one-half game ahead of Anderson who is 4-1.
The Indians will take a break from conference action this Monday when they travel to Florida to face off against Embry-Riddle. Gametime is set for 7:30 pm.
