Indians Take Care of Business on Home Court; Defeat Wingate 88-79
Salisbury, NC -- The Catawba men's basketball team (8-2, 4-1 SAC) took home another win today as they defeated Wingate (4-5, 0-4 SAC) 88-79. Devin Cooper was the high scorer for the Indians scoring 24 points.
Catawba used their strong depth once again to wear down the Bulldogs as nine different players scored for the Indians. To go along with Cooper's 24 points, Marcell Haskett put up 19 points including going 4-7 from the three point line.
Larry McLeod came up big scoring 10 points to lead the Indians' bench. Zaqwuan Matthews also had a strong afternoon scoring 14 points to go along with 3 three-pointers.
The first half saw Catawba pull out to a comfortable double-digit lead before Wingate stormed back before the half to make it a four point game. Jarren Cottingham led the charge for the Bulldogs scoring 12 first half points and ending with 20 for the game.
The second half saw a similar outcome as Catawba controlled the pace throughout and managed a late surge from Wingate to hang on for the victory. With the win the Indians sit second in the conference standings behind Lincoln Memorial who remains 4-0.
Up next for Catawba is a home game against Southern Wesleyan this Saturday. Tip off is set for 2 pm.
