Indians Improve to 10-0 With 78-58 Victory Over Wingate
Salisbury, NC -- In their 100th game in series history, the Catawba women's basketball team (10-0, 5-0 SAC) defeated Wingate (9-3, 3-2 SAC) 78-58 to remain undefeated on the season. The Indians remain at the top of the SAC standings with the victory.
The Indians got off to a hot start in the first quarter out-scoring the Bulldogs 20-13. Catawba started the period on a 14-4 run thanks to strong defense that would last the entire game. Madison Hallman led Catawba in scoring in the quarter with 6 points off two three pointers.
Wingate got their offense going in the second period as they would score 24 points. Hannah Clark would take over by scoring 8 points and getting 2 steals in the quarter. However, the Indians would again out-score the Bulldogs led by Taisha DeShazo's 12 points. DeShazo would end the game scoring 22 on 6-12 shooting while hitting two three pointers on the night.
Half number two saw Catawba pull away without much trouble, out-scoring Wingate 13-9 in the third period and 18-12 in the fourth. Shemya Stanbeck came up big on both sides of the ball, scoring 10 points and coming away with 4 steals.
Hallman and Lyrik Thorne would contribute nicely as both put up 11 points on the night. Hallman also came away with 3 steals.
The Indians will be back in action Saturday afternoon when they host Carson-Newman inside Goodman Gym at 2 pm.
