Men's Basketball Tops Carson-Newman for 10th Win of the Season
Salisbury, NC -- The Catawba men's basketball team (10-2, 5-1 SAC) defeated Carson-Newman (5-7, 2-4 SAC) 98-91 Saturday afternoon to pick up win number ten on the season. Marcell Haskett would be the high scorer for the Indians scoring 24 points.
Catawba controlled the game throughout, although the Eagles stayed within striking distance the majority of the afternoon. The first half saw Daquan Lilly get hot hitting jumpers and scoring in the paint to lead the Indians. Lilly would finish the game with 20 points and 8 rebounds.
As a team Catawba shot 40% from the floor in the first half while shooting 4-16 from behind the arc. Larry McLeod once again showed off his dunking prowess as he finished off multiple highlight reel dunks. McLeod would finish 6-7 from the field and score 14 points.
The Indians held a 46-36 halftime advantage and they wouldn't lose control as half number two unfolded. Marcell Haskett struggled in the first half but would take over in the second. For the game Haskett went 13-14 from the charity stripe while going 5-17 from the floor.
Other contributors for Catawba included Zaqwuan Matthews who scored 13 points and Malik Constantine who put up 10. The win keeps the Indians battling at the top of the SAC standings as they currently sit tied for second.
The Indians will travel to Coker on January 8th for a 7:30 pm match-up as they look for their sixth SAC victory.
