Catawba Announces Initial Beach Volleyball Schedule
SALISBURY, N.C. -- It’s Here! Catawba Beach Volleyball has arrived and set to begin their first season of competition. Patrick Nicholas, Catawba’s Director of Volleyball and Head Coach of both the Volleyball and Beach Volleyball teams, has announced the 2020 beach schedule.
“This is very exciting,” said Coach Nicholas. “Beach Volleyball is the fastest growing sport for high school aged females in the country and I am honored to be a part of this inaugural season as an NCAA sanctioned sport. This is such an awesome opportunity to be able to offer another option for female volleyball athletes to compete at this level, and I am looking forward to this opportunity.”
Catawba will be hosting the Catawba Beach Classic March 13-14 which is comprised of all new first year programs. Catawba will travel the next two weekend to play some hefty competitions and programs that have been competing for now for 4-5 years.
On March 21-22 at UNC Wilmington, Catawba will take on UNC Wilmington, defending Small College National Champions, the University of Tampa as well as North Alabama and Coastal Carolina. The following weekend, Catawba visits Charleston, S.C., where they will face host College of Charleston, Jacksonville University and the University of Alabama Birmingham.
April 10-11 Catawba will host the Catawba SAC Challenge with fellow SAC (South Atlantic Conference) members Carson-Newman, Lincoln-Memorial and Tusculum. Then Catawba travels to Tavares, FL to compete in the Small College National Championships March 17-19 at Hickory Point Beach.
“The other exciting piece to launching this first season for our beach program is showcasing our brand new awesome Beach Facility, added Nicholas. “We have three state of the art sand courts, with shower, fencing and lights. Yes, we have lights! So, besides some great college competition that will take place under the lights, we will be launching other programs such as an Adult League, a Youth League as well as camps, clinics and hosting some Junior Tournaments. We also have a few other ideas we are discussing.”
