Women's Basketball Survives LMU on the Road; Win 60-56
Harrogate, TN -- In a SAC Saturday afternoon match-up, the Catawba women's basketball team (12-1, 7-1 SAC) defeated Lincoln Memorial (5-7, 4-4 SAC) 60-56 in a game that came down to the final seconds. Emily Phillips came up big off the bench scoring a team high 13 points.
The Railsplitters, who have had their ups and downs during the conference season, played tough against the Indians as they held the lead after three quarters. Lindsay Proffitt led LMU with 10 points on the afternoon on 3-6 shooting.
Catawba would struggle on the offensive end shooting 31% from the floor while shooting 18-34 from the charity stripe. Despite the offensive woes, the Indians put together a strong fourth quarter to pull out the win and remain at the top of the SAC standings.
Despite not having any points through the first half, Phillips would take off in half number two as she scored all of her 13 points in the third and fourth quarters. Phillips came through from the free throw line by going 7-8, while shooting 2-3 from behind the arc.
Lyrik Thorne contributed 11 points for Catawba on 4-10 shooting. Thorne also dished out 4 assists. Fellow freshman Sara McIntosh scored 9 points off the bench while Talia Barnes put up 8 points and 6 rebounds.
The Lady Indians look to continue their strong season by traveling to Queens for another SAC game on January 15. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm.
