Indians Get Win #13 Over Queens 70-57
Charlotte, NC -- It was a strong performance on the road for the Catawba women's basketball team (13-1, 8-1 SAC) as they defeated Queens (3-12, 2-7 SAC) 70-57. The win improves their conference record to 8-1 as they remain at the top of the South Athletic Conference standings.
The Indians started off strong in the first quarter out-scoring the Royals 20-12. Talia Barnes scored 4 points in the period leading the team. Madison Hallman and Janiya Downs hit one three pointer each to combine for 6 of Catawba's 20 points.
Queens would come back in the second quarter as they cut the Indians' lead to four points at halftime. Julia Raflund scored 10 points in the period to lead the Royals while Kelsey Leedle had 5.
Catawba created separation in the second half with the help of DeShazo, as she scored 8 points in the third quarter and 3 in the fourth. For the game DeShazo shot 50% from the floor including 3 three pointers.
Talia Barnes would finish the game with 11 points on 4-8 shooting. Sara McIntosh came through off the bench scoring 10 points and collecting 2 rebounds. Catawba shot 37% as a team for the game.
The Indians will go for win number fourteen this Saturday when they host SAC rival Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 pm. Catch the game live on ESPN3.
