Men's Basketball Defeated by Queens 90-80
Charlotte, NC -- In a SAC match-up on the road against #16 Queens (12-3, 7-2 SAC), the #25 Catawba men's basketball team (11-4, 6-3 SAC) took a 90-80 loss. Devin Cooper was the high scorer for the Indians with 21 points on 4-11 shooting from the floor and 10-11 from the free throw line. With the loss Catawba drops to third in the SAC standings.
It was a tough night for the Indians' offense as they shot just 38% from the floor. Catawba also shot 8-27 (29%) from behind the arc.
The first half saw the Royals score 45 points on 46% shooting from the floor. Van Turner put up 15 first half points including 5 three pointers. Turner would finish the game with 18 points. Daniel Carr led the team with 23 points on the contest.
Although Catawba out-scored Queens in the second half 51-47 it wouldn't be enough to catch the Royals. Terrence Whitfield had a big night scoring 20 points for the Indians, while Marcell Haskett came through with 14 points on 50% shooting.
This Saturday Catawba will host SAC rival Lenoir-Rhyne at 4 pm. You can also catch the game live on ESPN3.
