Cooper's Career High 37 Not Enough in Loss to Lenoir-Rhyne
Salisbury, NC -- In an exciting back and forth battle, the Catawba men's basketball team (11-5, 6-4 SAC) lost their third game in a row as they were defeated by Lenoir Rhyne (9-6, 5-5 SAC) 91-85. Despite the loss, senior Devin Cooper had a career night scoring 37 points on 12-23 shooting. Cooper also knocked down 6 three point shots.
Cooper was dominate throughout the contest, especially in the second half. Cooper scored 24 of his points in the second half and led the Indians comeback after the Bears took an 11 point lead with 9 minutes to play.
Once Catawba faced its largest deficit of the game, Cooper took over the Indians offense and almost single handedly brought the team back. Lenoir-Rhyne hit just enough shots down the stretch to thwart the Catawba comeback and get a big road victory.
Darius Simmons scored 27 points for the Bears, going 6-8 from the floor and 13-13 from the charity stripe. Fellow backcourt teammate Mason Hawks knocked down 8 shots to score 23 points. RJ Gunn scored 21 for the Lenoir-Rhyne.
Daquan Lilly came through with 14 points on the game, out-scoring his season average of 11.5 ppg. The Indians shot 47% as a team from the floor as well as from long range.
Catawba will try to snap their losing streak on Wednesday when they host Anderson at 7:30 pm.
