Catawba Ends Losing Streak; Defeats Tusculum 82-75
Salisbury, NC -- Coming in on a four game skid, the Catawba men's basketball team (12-6, 7-5 SAC) brought home a win Saturday afternoon as they defeated Tusculum (11-9, 6-6 SAC) 82-75. Devin Cooper was the high scorer for the Indians with 20 points on 5-9 shooting. Cooper also went 6-6 from the free throw line.
The offense was solid all game for Catawba. As a team the Indians shot 47% and 45% from behind the arc. The charity stripe was friendly to Catawba as they shot 29-34 (85%).
Cooper scored 11 of his 20 points in the first half as he led the offense throughout. Malik Constantine scored all 10 of his points in the first half including going 6-6 from the free throw line. Daquan Lilly was a force in the paint in half number one scoring 7 points on 3-3 shooting.
Tusculum made some adjustments in the second half as they began to press on the defensive end. After a couple of turnovers, Catawba made their own adjustments and thwarted any chance of a comeback by the Pioneers. Marcell Haskett was another big part of the offense, scoring 16 points. Five Indians would score in double figures on the contest.
Larry McLeod put home 10 points on 3-5 shooting while grabbing 9 rebounds. Ben Zemonek came through big off the bench for Catawba scoring 8 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist.
Next week the team will look for another SAC win when they travel to Newberry on January 29th. Gametime is set for 7:30 pm.
