Newberry, SC -- It was a tough night for the Catawba women's basketball team (16-2, 11-2 SAC) as they lost on the road to Newberry (10-8, 7-6 SAC) 69-56. As a team, the Indians shot just 28% from the field on the night while going 2-16 from the three point line.

Although the Indians out-scored Newberry in the second period 15-13, the offense still struggled from the field. Taisha DeShazo, Shemya Stanback, and Janiya Downs each scored 4 points. Downs would finish the game as the high scorer for Catawba with 11 points.

The Indians closed the gap further in the third period led by Keyotta Garris' 5 points. Stanback would add 4 points in the quarter. Catawba drew to within 6 points at the end of quarter number three as they looked to pull off the comeback.

However, the Wolves would deny Catawba that opportunity as they out-scored the Indians 20-13 in the final period. McDermott would lead Newberry with 18 points on 7-16 shooting for the game. Keli Romas came through with 17 points of her own.

Stanback would score 8 points for the Indians by going 8-8 from the free throw line. The Indians scored 26 of their 56 points from the charity stripe.
