Baseball gets split in doubleheader at Mt. OliveMOUNT OLIVE, NC – Catawba and Mount Olive battled to a split in its baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Scorborough Field. The Indians won the opener 7-6, while the host Trojans took the finale 9-4. Catawba now stands at 2-1 on the year, while Mount Olive is 3-2. Mount Olive jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings in the opener, scoring its runs off Tribe starter Zach Snyder, who surrendered four hits and walked five. Jeff Boyles started the Catawba rally with a two-run homer in the fifth. Nick Lefko doubled home a run in the four-run inning. The Indians took the lead in the sixth on a two-out, two-run homer by Andrew Daywalt. The Indians added a much-needed insurance run in the seventh, but the Trojans Craig Hurba led off the home seventh with a home run. Mount Olive got the tying run in scoring position with one out, but Brian Hatley came on to strike out the final two batters and earn the save. Nick Mayle picked up the win in relief. He pitched three scoreless innings and allowed just four hits. Matt Baker collected three hits, including a pair of doubles. Hurba had three hits for the Trojans with two homers. Catawba held a brief 2-1 lead in the second game after an inning and half, but Hurba had a two-run single and Alan Thomas and Mike Mafucci had RBI singles in a six-run second for the hosts as Mount Olive went up 7-2. Thomas Giles had two hits for Catawba in the night cap, while Zach Evans and Aaron Rimer, who homered, had a pair of RBI. #####
