Women's Hoops Defeat Wingate 59-48 For Win Number 17
Wingate, NC -- After two losses a week ago, the Catawba women's basketball team (17-3, 12-3 SAC) got a big win on the road against Wingate (13-9, 7-8 SAC) 59-48. The Indians had a great defensive performance, forcing 21 turnovers and kept the Bulldogs under 50 points.
Taisha DeShazo broke out for 18 points on the night leading the team. DeShazo shot 40% from the field while going 3-8 from long range. DeShazo also collected 5 rebounds. Freshman Lyrik Thorne put together a 14 point performance to go along with 5 steals on the defensive end.
After a close first quarter, the second period saw the Indians create separation by putting together a 22-11 quarter. Catawba shot 8-19 in the period and hit 4 three pointers. The bench came through big as well with 11 points in the quarter.
Despite Wingate making a 16-9 run in the third, the Indians would take momentum back in the fourth to secure their 17th win of the season.
Bryanna Troutman led the Bulldogs with 19 points on the game. She also came up one rebound shy of a double-double with 9 boards.
This Saturday, Catawba heads back to Salisbury to host Mars Hill at 2 pm.
