Men's Basketball Wins Fourth Straight; Take Down Wingate 95-91
Wingate, NC -- The Catawba men's basketball team (15-6, 10-5 SAC) earned their fourth straight win tonight on the road defeating Wingate (10-11, 6-9 SAC) 95-91. Marcell Haskett was the high scorer for the Indians with 26 points, while Devin Cooper scored 24.
The offense came to play as four players scored in double figures, while the team shot 55% on the night. Other double figure scorers included Daquan Lilly and Malik Constantine who both scored 13 points.
Catawba scored 45 points in the first half as the Bulldogs did all they could to keep up with the strong Indians offensive attack. Catawba shot 52% in the half while hitting 4 three pointers. Wingate turned the ball over 11 times in the half which led to 18 Indians points.
The Bulldogs offense put up 55 second half points as they shot 42% from the field on 18 made shots. Wingate also went 15-16 from the foul line in the half. Despite a strong half on the offensive end, their defense couldn't slow down the combination of Cooper and Haskett as the Indians put up 50 second half points.
The Indians shot a scorching 61% from the field in half number two while also hitting 8 three point shots.
The bench came through with a solid performance helped by Ben Zemonek's 4 points and 10 rebounds. Terrence Whitfield scored 8 points on 3-4 shooting in 12 minutes of action.
This Saturday, Catawba will be back at home as they host Mars Hill for a 4 pm tip off.
