Indians Hit Four Homeruns in Home Opener; Win 10-0

Salisbury, NC -- It was a snow filled home opener for the Catawba baseball team (2-2) Saturday afternoon at Newman Park as the Indians defeated West Virginia State (0-1) 10-0. Despite the cold and snow, the Catawba offense wouldn't be held back as they collected 13 hits and 4 homeruns on the game.

On the mound for the Indians was Greg Brown. Brown collected his first win of the year by going 5.1 innings while giving up 4 hits and striking out 5. Sawyer Strickland, Kenny Dollenger, and Pearce Wilhelm helped complete the shutout from of the bullpen.

The middle of the order was the story as Jackson Raper and Zack Miller combined to go 5-8 with 3 homers. Miller also drove in 4 runs. Hunter Shepherd came through with his first two long balls of the year as he went 3-3 with 3 RBI's.

Luke Spiva went 1-3 for Catawba with a double. Joe Butts collected 2 hits on the afternoon and scored twice.

Tomorrow afternoon the Indians will host West Virginia State for a double header, with game one starting at 1 pm.
