Win Streak Hits Five For Men's Basketball With 113-97 Win
Salisbury, NC -- The win streak hit five Saturday for the Catawba men's basketball team (16-6, 11-5 SAC) as they defeated Mars Hill (10-12, 8-8 SAC) 113-97. The Indians sit second in the conference tied with Queens with the win.
It was a big afternoon for Marcell Haskett as he scored 29 points on 9-16 shooting. Haskett also drained 7 three pointers on 11 attempts. Devin Cooper scored 19 on the afternoon as they both continue their great play over the last two weeks.
Half number one saw Catawba score 50 points. As a team, the Indians shot 51% from the floor. Haskett scored 13 of his points in the first half while Cooper scored 12. Daquan Lilly also got in on the action scoring 12 points.
After halftime Catawba continued to shoot the ball strong as they scored 63 points in the second half. As a team, the Indians shot 61% in the half. Terrence Whitfield and Ace Carter contributed off the bench as Whitfield scored 13 points while Carter scored 12 for the game.
Larry McLeod provided even more entertainment with a highlight reel block and an ally-oop near the end of the game. McLeod scored 6 points and dished out 3 assists.
Next Wednesday the team will host Coker as they try to extend their winning streak to six games. Gametime is set for 7:30 pm.
