Women's Hoops Gets Win #19 Over Coker; Tied For First in SAC Standings
Salisbury, NC -- A big second half propelled the Catawba women's basketball team (19-3, 14-3 SAC) to a 78-61 win over Coker Wednesday night inside Goodman Gym. Fourteen different Indians players scored on the night, with Taisha DeShazo leading the team with 12 points on 4-7 shooting.
It was a tight first half as Catawba couldn't create separation from the Cobras. The Indians led by four points after the first quarter, and took a two point lead into the second half.
After halftime, Catawba came out with a new intensity as they out-scored Coker 29-10. The Indians went on a 19-0 run to start the quarter to put plenty of separation between themselves and the Cobras.
Senior Madison Hallman got going from behind the arc in the second half, hitting three shots from long range and scoring 11 points for the game. Lyrik Thorne would play tough from the point guard position, scoring 10 points and collecting 2 rebounds.
As a team, Catawba shot 37% (24-64) from the floor and hit 12 three's. The Indians also forced 25 Coker turnovers on the night.
The Indians will look for win number twenty when they play Carson-Newman this Saturday on the road. Tip-off is set for 2 pm.
