Indians Defeat Coker for Sixth Straight Win
Salisbury, NC -- The win streak is at six games for the Catawba men's basketball team (17-6, 12-5 SAC) as they defeated Coker (5-16, 4-14 SAC) 90-76 Wednesday night. With the win, the Indians remain second in the SAC standings behind #2 Lincoln Memorial.
The first half was a close one as the Cobras stayed with Catawba despite being down the entire half. Malcolm Kennedy led Coker with 12 first half points on 4-12 shooting. The Cobras forced the Indians into 7 turnovers while Coker turned the ball over just 3 times.
Marcell Haskett had a big half scoring 16 points to lead the Indians. Neither team shot the ball well from deep, with Catawba shooting 2-15 in half number one.
The second half saw the Indians pull away and Coker struggle from the offensive side of the ball. Catawba hit 9 three pointers in the half to finish the game 11-34 from long range.
Devin Cooper took over late in the second half and finished the game with a team high 18 points. Daquan Lilly also stepped up and scored 13 points on 6-12 shooting.
Off the bench, newcomer Ace Carter scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. While senior Malik Constantine struggled on the offensive end, he came up big on defense with 3 blocked shots.
This Saturday the team will travel to Carson-Newman looking to extend their win streak to seven games. Gametime is scheduled for 4 pm.
