Men's Basketball Extends Win Streak to Seven Games
Jefferson City, TN -- The Catawba men's basketball team (18-6, 13-5 SAC) defeated Carson-Newman (9-15, 6-12 SAC) 74-61 Saturday afternoon to extend their win streak to seven games as they hit the home stretch of the regular season. The Indians were led by Marcell Haskett's 26 points and 8 three pointers.
Haskett would score 12 of his points in half number one as he would be the main scoring threat for Catawba throughout the day. The Eagles kept the game close in the first half as they held a 28-27 lead with 5:49 to play. From there, the Indians would go on a 14-0 run to end the half and Carson-Newman wouldn't be able to complete a comeback the rest of the afternoon.
The start of the second half saw the Indians pull away to a 54-31 lead as the Eagles couldn't stop Haskett and the Indians' offense. Carson-Newman would cut the lead to just five points with under 7:00 to play, but Catawba would pull back away and finish off the Eagles.
Daquan Lilly would team up with Haskett to score 14 points on 5-9 shooting. Malik Constantine scored 8 points as he inches ever so close to the 1,000 point mark for his career. Ace Carter came off the bench to score 8 points and collected 3 rebounds.
This Wednesday the Indians are back at home as they host Queens for an important SAC match-up. The two teams are in a tight battle for second place in the standings, as tip-off is set for 7:30 pm.
