Women's Golf fourth, Haverty second at Kiawah Island event

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC Clara Fornella carded a final round 73 (+1) as the University of West Florida won the 2004 Tusculum College/Kiawah Island Women's Golf Intercollegiate. The two-day, 36-hole tournament was held at the par-72, 5,886-yard Cougar Point Golf Club. Catawba was fourth in the event with a 692 total with sophomore Paige Haverty (Greenville, NC) finishing second overall. The Argonauts led wire-to-wire finishing on 655, but had to hold off a Sunday charge from Nova Southeastern University who carded a second-round low 320 to finish with 657, two shots off the UWF pace. The University of Central Arkansas finished third with 671. Catawba led the other three South Atlantic Conference schools at the event. Fornella captured medalist honors with a two-round tally of 144, finishing six strokes in front of Haverty (154). Lisa Bowden of Central Arkansas and Nova Southeastern's Emily Sisson tied for third with 162. Sophie Friis of Nova Southeastern carded a 164 to finish fifth and round out the All-Tournament Team.
