Women's Hoops Defeat Lenoir-Rhyne 62-60
Hickory, NC -- Catawba women's basketball (22-5, 17-5 SAC) won a close match-up against SAC rival Lenoir-Rhyne (11-17, 9-13 SAC) on Saturday 62-60 to finish off a great regular season.
The game came down to the final minutes as the Bears led for almost the entire game. In the fourth quarter, however, the Indians battled back and took their first lead with 5:14 left to play. Free throws were key down the stretch as Catawba came in clutch at the charity stripe.
Late in the fourth, Lauren Ford and Madison Hallman hit free throws to keep the game tight. With just one second to play, Ford was fouled with the game tied at 60. Ford would hit both free throws and win the game for the Indians.
Freshman Lyrik Thorne was once again the top scorer for Catawba with 12 points. Hallman came in right behind Throne with 11, while Ford finished with 8 points.
Shemya Stanback was solid off the bench scoring 8 points and collecting 8 rebounds. As a team the Indians shot 30% from the field and 75% from the free throw line.
This Wednesday, Catawba will travel to Newberry in the first round of the SAC tournament. Gametime is set for 7 pm.
