Men's Basketball Takes Out Lenoir-Rhyne 92-87
Hickory, NC -- The Catawba men's basketball team got back in the win column Saturday after defeating Lenoir-Rhyne 92-87. Terrence Whitfield led the Indians with 21 points.
Catawba's offense came out on fire scoring 52 points in the first half. Marcell Haskett led the charge with 15 points which included two shots from long range. Whitfield scored 13 in the half on 5-6 shooting. As a team Catawba shot 55%.
Cooper Fowler scored 15 points in the half for LR as the Bears were just trying to keep pace with the red hot Indians.
The second half was a different story as the Bears tried to chip away at Catawba's lead. While the Indians still had control most of the half, LR began to draw closer near the end. RJ Gunn had a big performance finishing the game with 24 points. Darius Simmons also came alive scoring 22 points.
Catawba would hold on in the end and secure their 19th win of the season. Other contributors to the Indians' effort included Malik Constantine and his 12 points, along with Devin Cooper's 17 points and 6 assists.
The Indians will host Newberry this Wednesday in round one of the SAC tournament. Tip-off is set for 7 pm.
