Poteat Garners SAC AstroTurf Baseball Player of Week Honor
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Lee Poteat was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Newberry’s Quinton Driggers was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during week five of the 2020 season. It was annouced on Tuesday by the conference office.
Poteat, a senior outfielder from Salisbury, N.C., led the Catawba Indians to a 4-0 record last week including a non-conference win over nationally ranked No. 1 North Greenville and a three-game sweep of SAC foe Queens. Poteat batted .563 with a double, two home runs, seven RBIs and seven runs scored. He also stole two bases and had an on-base percentage of .619 and a slugging percentage of 1.000.
Driggers, a senior left-handed reliever from Pelion, S.C., was instrumental in Newberry’s SAC sweep of Lincoln Memorial last week. He made three appearances on the mound collecting saves in two of them. He allowed just one run on three hits over five and two-thirds innings and struck out 12 batters.
This is Poteat’s first Player of the Week honor this season, while this also marks the first Pitcher of the Week for Driggers.
