Women's Basketball rolls to win over Tusculum

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College built a 21-point halftime lead and went on to defeat visiting Tusculum 72-60 in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday night at Goodman Gym. The win improves the Lady Indians to 14-8 overall and 6-3 in the SAC, while Tusculum falls to 9-13 and 3-6. The Lady Indians hit on 57% in the opening half with Tusculum struggling to find its range, connecting on just 25% (7-of-28). Catawba used a 10-2 run early in the opening half to grab a 19-10 lead with 13:01 left. Aisha Stewart (Topeka, KS) canned her first three three-point tries in the opening seven minutes to help pace Catawba. Leading 24-17, the Lady Indians closed the half on a 18-5 run over the final 7:23 of the frame. Catawba would grab its largest lead of 26 points with 5:39 remaining at 67-41. Tusculum closed the game on a 11-1 run to close the gap to a dozen by the final whistle. The Lady Indians would hit just 29% in the second half. Stewart shared Catawba scoring honors with Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC) as they each scored 14. Locklear added seven rebounds and Stewart six boards. Isiaette Darden (Wilson, NC) also reached double figures with 11 points off the bench. Julie Maples (Knoxville, TN) led Tusculum with 19 points, while Kelley Karns (Pilot Mountain, NC) added 10. #####
