Men's Lacrosse Takes Conference Opener Over Mars Hill
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba dominated the second half and pulled away from visiting Mars Hill to post a 13-4 victory in South Atlantic Conference men’s lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians up their record to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the SAC. The Lions fall to 3-4 and 0-1.
With the game tied at 2-2 after 30 minutes, Catawba would score the lone three goals of the third quarter. Shane McCormick broke the tie at the 12:48 mark of the period to put Catawba on top for good.
It was 7-4 after a Mars Hill goal by Tremain Hill with 6:39 left, but that was the last tally for the Lions as Catawba ran off the final six goals of the game.
Yasir Stroud scored three goals with an assist to pace Catawba. Keegan Maxwell had two goals and an assist with Christian Norrie scoring twice. Payton Leonard caused five turnovers and scooped up six ground balls as an aggressive Indian defense helped force 32 Lion miscues. Kevin Geiger stopped six shots in goal.
Zac Carrigan scored two goals for Mars Hill, both in the first half. Ryan Prylinski recorded 11 saves.
Catawba will host Assumpton on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
