Indians Lose in Overtime in SAC Semifinal Against Anderson
Greenville, SC -- It was an overtime thriller in the women's SAC semifinal match-up between Catawba (23-6) and #20 Anderson (26-4), as the Trojans came out on top in overtime 75-71.
Anderson would jump out on top after the first quarter 21-16. Alexy Mollenhauer scored 7 points in the period to lead the Trojans, while Shemya Stanback scored 9 off the bench for the Indians.
Catawba would slow the Anderson offense down in the second quarter, holding them to 13 points. Catawba scored 21 points led by Taisha DeShazo's 9 point period to take the lead heading into halftime.
The teams came out fighting again the second half as both went back and forth trading buckets. The Indians led after the third quarter and looked to seal the deal going to the fourth.
Catawba held the lead most of the quarter, but with just 8 seconds left off an inbounds play, Madison Baggett nailed a three pointer to tie the game. Madison Hallman took the ball down the court for a last second three pointer that fell short and the teams would head to overtime.
The game was tied at 71 with 42 seconds left, but the Trojans would hit four free throws down the stretch to win it while Catawba's offense couldn't buy a bucket in the final seconds.
DeShazo would be the high scorer for the Indians putting up 22 points on the afternoon. Stanback would also have a great performance scoring 18 points and grabbing 8 rebounds.
For Anderson, Mollenhauer was the top scorer as she scored 22 points and collected 15 boards. Baggett would come through with 17 points.
