Men's Basketball Falls to Queens in SAC Semifinals
Greenville, SC -- Despite a strong effort, the Catawba men's basketball team (20-10) were defeated by #25 Queens (24-6) 104-95 Saturday night. Terrence Whitfield was the star despite the loss, scoring 31 points as he was the top scorer on the night for either team.
The first half saw Queens control the tempo and maintain the lead throughout. The Indians drew close multiple times but couldn't keep their runs going for long periods of time in order to take a lead.
At halftime the Royals led 48-35. Daniel Carr scored 11 of his points in the half while Catawba was led by Whitfield's 9.
The second half saw both offenses heat up but it wouldn't be enough for the Indians. Devin Cooper scored 17 points on 5-11 shooting while Ben Zemonek and Malik Constantine scored 13 points each.
As a team Catawba shot 57% while shooting 42% from long range. Queens meanwhile were led by Carr's 27 points.
The Indians now await a potential NCAA tournament bid. Stay tuned to gocatawbaindians.com for updates.
