Offense Shines in 17-0 Win Over Ohio Dominican
Wilson, NC -- On a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Fleming Field, the #2 Catawba Indians (18-3) defeated Ohio Dominican (2-11) 17-0 in an offensive explosion that saw five Indians homers.
Tyrese Hearst got the start on the mound for Catawba and pitched a solid 3.1 innings. Hearst gave up just 3 hits and struck out 1. Trent Montgomery and Connor Garcia finished out the final 3.2 innings in the 7 inning contest.
The Indians got out to a 2-0 advantage in the 1st when Cameron Morrison hit an RBI double to left field and later scored a run of his own on an error. Six more runs would cross in the 2nd as the game quickly got out of hand.
Inning number two saw an RBI hit by Lee Poteat, a Jackson Raper grand slam, and a Morrison homer to extend the lead to 8-0. The 3rd inning saw 5 runs score including another Raper homerun and a Hunter Shepherd big fly as the lead grew to 13-0.
Shepherd would hit his second homer of the contest in the 5th with a three run shot to right field. The final Catawba run was scored in the 6th on a Jeremy Simpson RBI single as the Indians would go on to finish out the game in the 7th to complete the victory.
Lee Poteat once again had a great game out of the leadoff spot, going 2-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Simpson finished the day 2-5 with 3 runs scored and an RBI. Raper, Morrison, and Shepherd combined for 13 RBI on the day as the middle of the order dominated Ohio Dominican pitching.
Tomorrow afternoon Catawba will play California, PA at 2 pm right back at Fleming Field.
