Men's Lacrosse Posts Third Straight Win
SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba grabbed a 12-9 win over visiting Assumption in men’s lacrosse action on Wednesday afternoon at Shuford Stadium. The Catawba Indians notch their third straight win to level their record at 3-3. The Greyhounds, who received votes in the latest USILA poll, drop to 2-2.
The teams traded goals in the first half with Catawba taking its first lead on a goal from Keegan Maxwell at the 11:33 mark of the second quarter. Assumption scored twice to go back on top before Christian Norrie pulled the Indians even with 2:11 before the half.
Maxwell opened the second half with a pair of goals in the first three minutes and Catawba led the rest of the way. Norrie’s goal with 3:12 remaining in the third pushed Catawba up 10-7. The Indian defense would allow only one goal in the final period to ice the game away.
Norrie scored five goals to lead Catawba. Maxwell added three with an assist and Joey Lindner put in two goals. Payton Leonard caused three turnovers with five ground balls and Shawn Casebolt won 15 of 24 face-offs. Kevin Geiger stopped 13 shots.
Spencer Marocchini had two goals with two assists for the Greyhounds. Anthony D’Angelo had two goals with an assist. Tim Tierney caused four turnovers and Mike Pasquaretta posted six saves.
Catawba travels to Lincoln Memorial on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest.
