No-hitter highlights Baseball DH sweep of Barber-Scotia

SALISBURY, NC -- Freshmen Paul Link (Cleveland, NC) and Brian Benton (Wallace, NC) combined on a seven-inning no-hitter in game one, while fellow freshmen Zach Evans (Greensboro, NC) threw five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts as the Catawba Indians swept an afternoon double-header from the Barber-Scotia Sabers by identical final scores of 14-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Newman Park. Catawba evens their record to 4-4 on the year, Barber-Scotia drops to 0-2. In game one, Matt Baker (Charlotte, NC) went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Jimbo Davis (Salisbury, NC) was 2-for33 with a double and three RBI. Thomas Giles (Lynchburg, VA) hit a solo HR and Jeff Boyles (Pinnacle, NC) added a two-run shot, his second of the season. On the mound, Link went six innings and allowed three walk and posted seven strikeouts. Benton pitched a perfect ninth inning. In the second game, the Tribe bats stayed hot as Davis added a 2-for-3 performance, tacking on a double and a home run with six RBI. Scott Searles (Boston, MA) snapped a hitless-streak with a 3-for-4 outing, scoring twice and driving in two. Spence Southard (Greensboro, NC) went 2-for-5 and had three RBI, coming on a home run in a seven-run fourth inning. David Hughes (Apex, NC) added a solo shot in the win. #####
