Slugfest Ends in 14-11 Win For The Indians

Wilson, NC -- It was a slugfest between Catawba (19-3) and California, PA (6-6) as the Indians came out on top 14-11. Jackson Raper shined as he went 5-6 with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI. Raper also hit two homeruns on the afternoon. 

Early on both pitching staffs looked strong as the Vulcans led 2-1 after 4 innings. The Vulcans scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 5th and took a 4-2 lead into the 6th. After the 6th the offenses got rolling, scoring a combined 19 runs the rest of the game. 

The 8th inning saw Catawba score 8 runs to take their first lead of the game. Raper drove in 2 runs with a double followed by a 2 run single by Cameron Morrison. Later in the inning, Zack Miller hit a double down the left field line that brought home 2 more runs. The final runs of the inning came from a Joe Butts 2 RBI single as the Indians finished off a monster 8th inning. 

Catawba scored 2 more times in the 9th to take a 14-10 lead. The Vulcans scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning off a Bill Hitman homer, but that would be it as the Indians' Robbie Cowie slamed the door to secure the win. 

Kenny Dollenger started the game for Catawba and went 4.0 innings giving up 5 hits, 2 runs, and striking out 8. Nick Riggle started for California, PA, throwing 4.0 innings as well. Riggle gave up 4 hits and 1 run. 

This Friday night Catawba will host Lincoln Memorial for game one of a three game series at Newman Park. First pitch is set for 6 pm.
