Raper Claims SAC AstroTurf Baseball Player of Week Honor
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) -- Catawba’s Jackson Raper was named the South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Baseball Player of the Week, while Lenoir-Rhyne’s Hayden Gresham was named AstroTurf Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played during the final week of the 2020 season. The conference office announced the awards on Tuesday.
Raper, a senior third baseman from Concord, N.C., led the Catawba Indians to a pair of non-conference wins over Ohio Dominican and California (Pa.) last week. He was nearly unstoppable at the plate as he batted .800 with four home runs, a double, six runs scored and 10 RBIs. In addition he had an .800 on-base percentage and an astounding 2.100 slugging percentage.
Gresham, a sophomore right-handed pitcher from Charlotte, N.C., picked up a non-conference win over Lake Erie last week after throwing four innings, allowing no runs and scattering four hits with three strikeouts.
This is Raper’s first Player of the Week honor this season, while this also marks the first Pitcher of the Week for Gresham.
