Baseball Trio Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
SALISBURY, N.C. -- A trio of Catawba College senior baseball players have been named to the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Baseball Team. Pitcher Hunter Shepherd, catcher Cameron Morrison and third baseman Jackson Raper were picked to the team. CoSIDA, recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Shepherd has compiled a 3.64 GPA while majoring in communications. On the mound, he has a career record of 23-6 with a 3.95 ERA and two saves. He is also a .361 hitter with 25 homers and 96 RBI. Shepherd has earned several honors over his career, including being the 2017 SAC Freshman of the Year and the 2019 SAC Tournament MVP.
Morrison, a biology major, has posted a 3.62 GPA. In 2020, Morrison had up stellar offensive numbers to go along with his excellent skill behind the plate handling the Catawba Indian pitching staff. He was hitting .436 with five homers and had an on-base percentage of .357 and was slugging at a .836 clip. He was named to the 2019 SAC All-Tournament team.
Raper had a 3.62 GPA as an accounting major. Over his career, Raper was a .355 hitter with 28 homers and 160 RBI. He delivered 55 doubles and scored 155 runs. In 2019, Raper was an honorable mention All-American by the NCBWA, All-Southeast Region and All-SAC. He was the third baseman on the SAC All-Defensive Team.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-America® honorees will be announced from June 8-11.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages and are divided into geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs. The NAIA CoSIDA Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.
