Corace Tabbed As Head Coach For Women's Lacrosse
SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College Director of Athletics, Larry Leckonby, has announced that Caitlyn Corace will become Catawba’s third Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach. She joins Catawba after six seasons as the Head Coach at Lincoln Memorial, where she helped launch the program at the rival conference school.
“We are excited to have someone with Caitlyn’s background join us at Catawba,” stated Leckonby. “Her experience, energy and passion for the sport of women’s lacrosse will help us be successful both on and off the field.”
“I would like to thank our Associate Athletic Director, Craig Turnbull, for chairing the committee during the search process,” Leckonby added.
After an initial 1-11 season in 2015, Corace improved LMU each year with a 12-6 mark by 2019. That season, LMU would advance to the conference tournament semifinals. She posted 32 wins with the Railsplitters.
"I would like to thank Mr. Leckonby, Mr.Turnbull, and the search committee for selecting me as the next head women's lacrosse coach at Catawba College!” said Corace. “I will be forever grateful for Lincoln Memorial for taking a chance on me six years ago to build the women's lacrosse program and begin my head coaching career. That being said, I am very excited for this new opportunity and I can't wait to get to campus and start working with the team!"
Prior to starting up the program at LMU, Corace was an assistant coach at Defiance in 2014. That season marked the school’s first year of varsity status in Division III. While at Defiance, Corace was responsible for player development, recruiting, budgeting, practice and pregame planning, along with game planning and working with the team’s defense and goalies.
Before her stint at Defiance, Corace was the assistant coach at Mount Saint Mary College in 2013. While there, she assisted the head coach in all facets of the game, mostly focusing on the team’s attack unit. In her one year at Mount Saint Mary, the team won a program-best 10 games, averaging 12.11 goals per game.
Corace has served as a member of the Division II All-American Committee that evaluates and chooses the IWLCA South All-Region and All-American teams. During the summer of 2014, she was a head coach for the Yellow Jackets North club team, working with the 2016 team at recruiting tournaments and practices. She also coached at the Maverick Showtime Lacrosse Camp, comprised of the top 150 high school lacrosse players in the 2015 and 2016 classes in Danbury, CT.
A 2012 graduate of Keene State, Corace led the Owls to three Little East Conference Championships, the 2010 ECAC Championship, and three NCAA tournament bids. She finished her career ranked fourth in program history with 143 goals, while also dishing out 27 assists for 170 career points. In the summer of 2012, Corace was selected to represent the United States as part of the USAAI lacrosse team in Scotland, competing against the Scotland U-19 and Senior National teams.
Corace graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Keene State and earned her Master’s in educational leadership from LMU in 2017. Corace’s sister, Alyssa, was a standout for Catawba’s lacrosse team from 2013-16.
