Samples Joins Swimming Staff as Assistant Coach
Catawba Head Swimming Coach, Michael Sever, has announced that Maddie Samples has been named the Assistant Swimming Coach. She comes to Catawba from Northern State University, where she served as a graduate assistant coach and obtained her master’s degree in sports performance.
Prior to Northern State, Samples received her undergraduate degree in sport management and recreation at Henderson State University. Samples was an accomplished swimmer at Henderson, an NCAA Division II program. She competed all four years and represented the RedWave at NCAA’s her junior year. Samples’ primary events were the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, and 100 backstroke.
“We are excited to welcome Maddie to the CATU swimming family,” said Sever. “Her background, energy, and passion for the sport will make an immediate and lasting impact.”
In addition to college coaching, Samples spent last summer as a counselor at both Stanford and Princeton University swim camps, helping younger athletes improve their technique while working closely with the coaching staff. She is also a former summer coach at Town North YMCA in Dallas, Texas.
