Myers' home run helps Softball to split with Kutztown

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba College opened its home softball schedule in dramatic fashion as senior Amanda Myers (Lynchburg, VA) homered with one out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Lady Indians a 2-1 win over visiting Kutztown at Whitley Field on Saturday afternoon. Kutztown earned a split with a 3-0 win in the second game. Catawba is 2-5 on the season. Kutztown scored an unearned run in the first inning of the opener with Catawba tying the score in the third on a two-out solo home run by Jessica Rivera (Key West, FL). The Bears had just two baserunners after the opening inning, getting a runner to second with one out seventh. Catawba placed two runners on in the fourth, but failed to score and did have another baserunner until Myers’ home run. Lindsay Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) earned the win for Catawba, allowing just the one unearned run on four hits. She had eight strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Stacey Denlinger (Harleysville, PA) took the loss, surrendering just five hits with four strikeouts. Natalie Burch (Fleetwood, PA) tossed a three-hit shutout to give Kutztown the split in the nightcap. She posted three strikeouts. The Bears scored single runs in the second, third and sixth innings. Dani Spalik (Philadelphia, PA) and Stacy Bricker (Kutztown, PA) each had two hits for the Bears. #####
